Accountex 2014 – The Smell of Fear

A technology conference for accountants. Really !!

In two weeks time London will host the annual Accountex conference . It’s a technology conference for accountants and while I can’t think of any reason why it would have existed 4 years ago, all that has now changed in the world of accounting and finance.  Cloud technology has rewritten the rules for the small to medium sized business owners when it comes to engaging with their customers, staff and financial advisors.  There are now a significant number of cloud accounting providers who offer incredibly useful and straightforward systems to the market and all of them will be present at this conference.

  • If you’re thinking of implementing or changing your accounting / financial system to run your business you should be there
  • If you can’t make it your accountant should be there

Don’t miss the Xero village. This crowd has taken the world by storm and for good reason. Xero’s online accounting system is simple and smart. It’s easy to get the data in and even easier to get the insights out. Whats more Xero has an open link to their software that hundreds of add on partners have built systems to plug into, this in turn has made it the most feature rich system on the planet.

We use a number of the add-on partners to run our business, Workflowmax for practice admin, Capsule CRM for contact and sales management and Spotlight reporting for performance reports.  It just all works great.

One of the things you’ll notice when you walk into the conference ( which is free btw – we’re still accountants you know ) is how luxurious the SAGE booth will be. That’s the smell of FEAR. Sage has long dominated the market in accounting software but they have a challenger now and they’re playing catch-up. The old model of desktop systems and expensive re-sellers is on the way out, not because there is something new but because there is something better.
